Residents warned about sod scam
Article published on Wednesday, March 8, 2006
TREASURE ISLAND – On March 1, at 4:49 p.m., a resident was allegedly approached by a male subject on a bike asking if she wanted some sod for the lawn.

According to an “e-mail alert” from the city police department, the suspect stated the sod was free but it would be $80 for him to remove the old sod for her to install it.

The resident provided $60 cash to the male subject and he never returned.

The male is described as white, in his 40s, heavy build, approximately 5 feet, 10 inches tall, wearing a ball cap, on a red bicycle.

The police said this is the second incident of this nature. Anyone with information is asked to call the Treasure Island Police Department at 547-4595.
