Beach Games celebrate National Tourism Week

TREASURE ISLAND – The Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce will celebrate the final day of National Tourism Week Sunday, May 18 with the Spirit of Hospitality Beach Games at the Bilmar Beach Resort.
The Games culminate a week of activities planned to commemorate National Tourism Week, May 10-18.
The event kicks off at 1 p.m. on the beach and includes sandcastle sculpture, volleyball, an animal relay race, flip-flop kick and a tug-of-war.
The games will be limited to 10 teams of six to 10 people each. Trophies will be awarded to the winners.
Registration is $15 a person, which includes a T-shirt and burgers. Teams can enter for $250 each.
Prior to the competition, the chamber plans its annual Tourism Luncheon Tuesday, May 13, at the Wine Cellar Restaurant in Redington Beach. The guest speaker will be Don Gleason, senior overseas manager of Virgin Holidays in the United Kingdom.
The chamber also plans Rolling Out the Red Carpet For Visitors Wednesday, May 14 through Friday, May 16, at its three welcome centers at John’s Pass, Treasure Island and the chamber office, 6990 Gulf Blvd., St. Pete Beach.
During this event, chamber members are being asked to participate in any combination of four, two-hour time slots each day to promote their businesses to visitors.
