ST. PETE BEACH – Two people died in a three-vehicle crash Saturday night on the Pinellas Bayway east of Granada Street in St. Pete Beach.
According to investigators with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team, Charles Mason, 56, of St. Petersburg, and Clovis Polston, 66, of Seminole died at the scene.
Mason was traveling westbound over the Pinellas Bayway in a 2004 Chevy Tahoe just before the crash that occurred about 9:42 p.m. May 17. As he entered a right curve heading toward the toll area, he crossed the centerline, resulting in a head-on crash with a 1992 Ford F250 driven by Polston, who was headed eastbound.
A third vehicle, a 2008 Honda driven by Carroll Elmore, 45, of St. Petersburg, also was headed eastbound on the Bayway. As he tried to stop, the rear of the Ford truck struck the front of his vehicle.
A child passenger in the Tahoe was uninjured, but was transported to All Children’s Hospital for precautionary reasons. The passenger in the Tahoe, Elmore and his passenger also were uninjured.
