Boats like these will be racing June 17-18 when the Powerboat P1 SuperStock USA series makes its Pinellas County debut off St. Pete Beach.
ST. PETE BEACH – The third race of the Powerboat P1 SuperStock USA series will make its Pinellas County debut Saturday and Sunday, June 17-18 off St. Pete Beach.
The event, presented by Mercury Racing and Powerboat P1 AquaX racing, features a series of SuperStock and high-powered jet ski races beginning at 10 a.m. both days. Admission is free.
The best viewing for spectators will be on the beach next to the Postcard Inn at 6300 Gulf Blvd., as well as on the water in the spectator zone. Visit p1aquaX.com or p1superstock.com for details.
Over 100 AquaX pro and amateur racers from around the world will compete on personal watercraft at speeds of more than 70 mph. In addition, a total of nine SuperStock boats are expected to compete.
Racers will compete on a 2-mile oval course about 1,000 feet off the beach, which will extend about 1 ˝ miles westward.
The P1 boats are all 28-foot 2-step V-hulls powered by Mercury 300XS V-6 outboards. The jetski races, which will launch from the beach, will feature competition in 200-, 250- and 300-hp divisions.

Visit St. Petersburg/Clearwater is not only the presenting sponsor of the race but also sponsoring a Visit St. Petersburg/Clearwater race boat piloted by Richie Webster and Trent Gaulin. Other teams include GEICO, Southeastern Lighting Solutions, Team Barbados and Frank & Jimmie’s Propellers Racing.
“Our P1 SuperStock powerboat series, presented by Mercury Racing, continues to gain momentum and recognition and it boasts the most extensive television package in powerboat racing with coverage in more than 150 countries,” said P1 USA Managing Director Azam Rangoonwala in a press release.
The St. Pete Beach races will be the fourth stop on the Powerboat P1 USA summer schedule. The season opened April 22-23 in Daytona Beach and continues May 20 in St. Cloud before moving on to Jacksonville June 4. Following the St. Pete Beach race, the circuit continues July 1-2 in Sarasota and Aug. 19-20 in Islamorada.
