NORTH REDINGTON BEACH – As America prepares to celebrate its 233rd birthday, small towns like North Redington Beach are getting ready to take part in the festivities.
On Saturday, July 4, North Redington Beach plans to get out the town’s red, white and blue gear for its annual parade and picnic, weather permitting.
The July 4th Parade will start at 9 a.m. at Addie Graham Park on 173rd Avenue and proceed by way of Second Street onto First Street and wind its way to Radcliffe Park.
Residents are encouraged to decorate their bikes, wagons, vehicles and themselves in patriotic array for the parade. A special prize will be given to the best decorated bike, wagon and costumed child.
Once the parade ends at Radcliffe Park, there will be hot dogs, sno-kones, cold drinks, balloon twisting and more.
Mayor Bill Queen announced at the June 11 town hall meeting that there will be a history quiz for both kids and adults at the July 4 picnic. With prizes for both children and adults at stake, Queen advises residents to “study up on the American Revolution.”
Later on in the day, two local fireworks displays will run concurrently just after 9 p.m. One will take place in Madeira Beach near the Tom Stewart Causeway and the other in Redington Shores from the County Beach Access across from Beach Pizza.
During the town hall meeting the Board of Commissioners passed two resolutions approving the Halloween Halfathon for Oct. 31 and the Holiday Halfathon for Dec. 13.
According to halfathon coordinator Chris Lauber, he hopes to make the events a mainstay in the community. Lauber is encouraging participants to dress up for the Halloween event for the amusement of the onlookers.
“I have heard of guys wearing black bowties along with their running shorts,” said Lauber.
