The Swim Boutique opened June 3 at 6650 Gulf Blvd. in St. Pete Beach.
ST. PETE BEACH – When Jaime Tripodo Dominguez was 18 months old, she modeled the latest swimwear on the runway for her grandmother’s resort wear business.
The 30-year-old grew up in the resort wear business and bought the inventory from her grandmother, Jean Montana’s Indian Shores swim wear business in 2011. On June 3, she opened a second store, The Swim Boutique in St. Pete Beach, Dominguez said.
The store’s niche as “the home of the D, DD, E & F cup” came “out of my own necessity,” Dominguez said, who described going into department stores and not getting the right bra size. Both the Indian Shores and St. Pete Beach shops offer professional fitting of swimwear and bras.
“When you wear the right size, your body feels better. I love helping women,” Dominguez said. “The look on a woman’s face when she gets the right fit is really gratifying.”
Although Dominguez worked in the social work field after getting her master’s degree, she decided to return to her family’s roots of selling swimwear. She is the third-generation in her family to sell resort wear including Dominguez’ mother Linda Tripodo, who has retired from the resort wear business. Dominguez’ grandmother, who passed away in 2003, opened the first swimwear business “On the Beach” in Madeira Beach in 1977 and her last store The Swim Boutique in Indian Shores in 1996, she said.
The stores carry fashionable resort wear from the United States, Canada and Europe including Freya and Panache. Both store locations sell sunscreen products, dresses, bras, underwear, cover-ups, toys, handbags, shoes and swimwear for men, women and children.
“It’s not your grandmother’s swim wear,” Dominguez said.
The new St. Pete Beach location’s core hours are 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily with extended hours in season. The business, located at 6650 Gulf Boulevard, is in the same plaza as Finish Line Scooters.
