Treasure Island - The Treasure Island Police Department is reminding the public of the ban on fireworks within city limits.
Fireworks are the cause of thousands of fires and injuries throughout the United States each July 4. The debris left on the beaches and streets from spent fireworks creates a unnecessary burden to our sensitive marine environment.
The good news is that these fires, injuries and debris accumulations are preventable, when people comply with local laws prohibiting the use of fireworks.
The Pinellas County Code adopted by the city of Treasure Island prohibits all fireworks within city limits, with the exception of sparklers and fountains. The only permitted use of fireworks is for professional fireworks shows, such as that which takes place on the beach.
Treasure Island Police will be on the lookout for fireworks throughout the 4th of July holiday period. Anyone caught in possession of illegal fireworks will have the fireworks confiscated and will be subject to a citation. A fine of $88 is possible for illegal fireworks discharge.
Fireworks are illegal in Pinellas County, and other jurisdictions share Treasure Island’s desire to maintain a safe and environmentally clean 4th of July holiday. The City’s goal is for the community to have a safe, fun 4th of July holiday, and to prevent fire or injury incidents related to fireworks.
