MADEIRA BEACH – A Madeira Beach woman was critically injured July 1 when she was ejected from her moped after hitting a curb on Duhme Road.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, Karen Sue Kennedy, 55, was traveling on a 2006 Roketa moped northbound on Duhme Road approaching 48th Avenue North when for unknown reasons she lost control of her moped and struck the right curb of the roadway.
She was thrown off her bike and suffered critical injuries. She was transported to Bayfront Medical Center. The FHP said she was not wearing a helmet.
Kennedy’s moped ended up in the intersection of Duhme Road and 40th Avenue North, resulting in a roadway closure of about two hours while officials investigated the scene.
