TREASURE ISLAND – Construction of a new Publix supermarket in Treasure Island is on schedule and will open in late August.
According to company officials, the two-level, 28,000-square-foot store at Gulf Boulevard and 104th Avenue will open on Aug. 28.
“It’s the smaller prototype we have,” said Publix spokeswoman Shannon Patten, “but when land is limited and customers want us there, we have to get creative.”
Patten said the store will offer 125 parking spaces on the first level under the store.
The two levels will be connected by four elevators large enough for each to accommodate at least two customers and their carts.
The store architecture is the first of its kind in Central and Southwest Florida, and perhaps in the state, Patten said.
Amenities include a 6-foot dock, allowing customers to visit the store via boat, and an outdoor picnic area for customers to use after they purchase fresh food items from the deli.
Unlike many existing Publix stores, the new store will not offer a Greenwise section, pharmacy or a full-service floral shop.
Organic products will instead be integrated with nonorganic products on radial shelving that bows out.
The store will include floral products for sale, sushi and full-service meat, seafood, deli and bakery departments.
It also will include two retail locations for other businesses. One has been leased to a Subway franchisee and the other is still available.
