North Redington Beach recognizes volunteers, military
Article published on Tuesday, July 22, 2008
NORTH REDINGTON BEACH – The Board of Commissioners officially expressed its gratitude at the July 10 town hall meeting to volunteers who helped make the town’s Fourth of July parade and picnic a success.

The town provided snacks of snowcones, hot dogs and soft drinks at the picnic in Harold Radcliffe Park. Activities for children included face painting, balloon animals and gift bags.

Vice Mayor Jerry Knight said that he brought his 10-year-old grandson to the event. “My grandson said this was the best Fourth of July in his whole life,” said Knight.

Commissioner Curtis Blocker said the town “couldn’t have gotten a better bang for our buck” with the positive feedback from those who attended the July 4 festivities.

This year the town began the parade an hour earlier at 9 a.m. than in previous years. North Redington Beach used air mist fans in the Radcliffe Park gazebo to keep the picnic cool.

Mayor Bill Queen remarked that the town’s July 4 and Santa Parade festivities are “two great community events.”

The only disparaging comments the mayor heard were that there were no town fireworks this year. Queen extended an invitation to those who want fireworks in 2009 to make their wishes known to town hall. When it was time to cut the 2008 budget, those who expressed their wishes to the Board of Commissioners opted to cut the fireworks.

During new business, members of the Planning and Zoning Board and the Beach Advisory Board were thanked for their service to the town.

Reappointed to the Planning and Zoning Board for 2008-11 were Joe Baldanza, Steve Busse and alternate George Sailor. Appointed to the Beach Advisory Board for 2008-10 were Connie Jessup, Ruth Spears and alternate Nila Postupack.
