TREASURE ISLAND – A public forum on the impact of rising flood insurance rates will be held Tuesday, Aug. 27, 6 to 8 p.m., at Treasure Island City Hall, 120 108th Ave.
Admission is free. A panel of experts will answer questions. They include Betty Ryals, regional sales manager, Wright Flood; Patty Latshow, vice president and principal flood coordinator, Wright Flood; and Pam Debov, Pinellas County property appraiser.
Anita Ford, agency principal of Insurance Resources, and Treasure Island resident Dominique Reiter will moderate.
Recent passage of the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012 dramatically affects the owners of homes and business buildings built pre-1974 that are below the base flood elevation of their communities. The bill eliminates subsidies in the federal flood insurance program, which will result in large increases in flood insurance rates.
