MADEIRA BEACH – A Venice woman died at a local hospital Wednesday afternoon after she was found unresponsive in the water near John’s Pass in Madeira Beach.
According to a report from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call about a drowning about 2:48 p.m. Aug. 20, at 12935 Gulf Lane.
According to deputies, Kathleen Marie Shortill, 69, was in the water on the beach when her husband noticed she was unresponsive. Bystanders in the area assisted in pulling Shortill from the water, began CPR and called 911.
Shortill was transported to a local hospital via ambulance where she later died.
Deputies said the drowning appears to be accidental and it is unknown at this time if it was health related.
