TREASURE ISLAND – The Chamber of Commerce for the city of Treasure Island recently released plans to expand into Madeira Beach and Monday announced that Tampa Bay businessman Bill Edwards has returned to serve as its chairman of the board.
The “new” chamber will be called The Treasure Island and Madeira Beach Chamber of Commerce and after a near two-year hiatus, Edwards, a regional entrepreneur, philanthropist and business leader, is back at the helm.
“I am thrilled about the direction and future of the chamber” said Jo Massaro, the chamber’s president and events director. “Having Mr. Edwards return as chairman, along with our expansion with Madeira Beach takes us to the next level assuring success to our newly joined communities.”
Edwards previously served as chairman from 2009 to 2011. Under his watch, the chamber tripled its operating budget and launched a series of pro-business initiatives, including television commercials promoting local tourism, postage-paid postcards of Treasure Island’s sunsets, advertisements in airline magazines, promotional rack cards, special events, and also overhauled the chamber’s website and social media presence.
“I’m excited and energized to return,” said Edwards, whose philanthropic and community interests include Big3 Entertainment LLC, Bill Edwards Presents, The Club at Treasure Island, the Shops at St. Pete, Mortgage Investors Corporation, the Crystal Palms Beach Resort, The Edwards Family Foundation, The Bill Edwards Foundation for the Arts, and managing The Mahaffey Theater.
“The Treasure Island and Madeira Beach business communities depend on each other, and our success is connected by much more than just the John’s Pass Bridge,” said Edwards.
An informal meeting of members and prospective members will be held at the American Legion Post 273, 600 American Legion Drive, on Thursday, Aug. 29, at 6 p.m.
