The town of Indian Shores and city of Gulfport are making sandbags available to residents beginning Friday, Aug. 24.
Indian Shores residents can begin picking up sandbags, should they be needed, at 8 a.m. in the north parking lot at Town Hall. Sandbags will be available in Gulfport beginning at 1 p.m. at the fire station parking lot location north of City Hall, 2401 53rd St. S. Both locations require proof of residency.
For more information, Gulfport residents can call 727-893-1089.
Indian Shores residents also are reminded to make sure they have their Post Disaster Re-Entry tag, which will be needed to expedite re-entry across the bridges when authorities clear the beaches for occupancy after a hurricane evacuation. The hang-tags act as a security system for police to easily identify which vehicles belong in town.
Residents who have not yet obtained a tag, can come to the Town Hall administrative office on the third floor, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Residents will need to fill out a form and bring proof of residency or ownership, such as your driver's license, tax bill or utility bill showing an Indian Shores address. Business managers or owners may also apply for enough tags to cover their emergency staff.
Residents also are reminded to make a plan to secure your patio furniture and other objects outside that may become missiles in high winds.
