Women’s Chamber meets monthly NORTH REDINGTON BEACH – The Women’s Chamber of Commerce of the Greater Gulf Beaches, an organization founded in 1936, meets first Wednesdays at the Wine Cellar Restaurant, 17307 Gulf Blvd. Meetings will resume in October. Social hour is at 11 a.m. with lunch at noon. Cost is $15. The group is a not-for-profit organization. All monies collected will be donated to a charity of the club’s choice. Legion post plans poker run MADEIRA BEACH – American Legion Post 273 plans a Bikers and Boat Poker Run Sunday, Oct. 4. The biker poker run will benefit breast cancer research and the boat event will benefit the post’s veterans programs. The event is open to the public. Read & Feed slated INDIAN SHORES – The town library will host a Read and Feed featuring Jodi Picoult’s novel “My Sister’s Keeper,” Monday, Sept. 21, 11:30 a.m. The book, which chronicles the challenges of a child conceived as a bone-marrow match for her cancer-stricken sister, touches on difficult ethical issues raised by genetic engineering. During the discussion, participants will enjoy a lunch of chili, prepared by the library volunteers.
The central character finds refuge in her father’s firehouse, while fire-setting and firefighting are key symbols in the story.
Cost is $8, with the number of participants limited to 24. Residents should sign up for the event in the town library by Sept. 19. The library, located in Indian Shores Town Hall, 19305 Gulf Blvd., is open Monday and Thursday, 1 to 4 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Several copies of the book are available for checkout.
