TREASURE ISLAND – The fifth edition of the city of Treasure Island’s Sanding Ovations Masters Cup Sand Sculpture Competition and Music Festival is set Wednesday through Sunday, Nov. 20-24 on the beach at 104th Avenue.
At least 10 master sculptors are expected again this year to showcase their skills in the soft, white sand. The top four sculptures and a “people’s choice” sculpture will be awarded over $12,000 in cash prizes.
The event features a beach food court, an arts and crafts marketplace and three days of live music on stage.
Headlining this year’s musical lineup will be the popular Black Honkeys Friday at 8 p.m. Opening for the Honkeys will be the breakout band of the year, the ukulele funk of Applebutter Express, Friday at 6 p.m.
Saturday, the biggest day of the event, includes fireworks on the beach at 10 p.m., the Masters Cup awards presentation at 7 p.m. and an all-out party starting at 3 p.m. with Treasure Island’s bluegrass rockers Cornfused.
The always-popular Rocket Man Show, starring Rus Anderson as Elton John, is back Saturday night at 8.
Sunday’s slate features WMNF’s Pete Gallagher and the Florida Folk Show at noon, the electic funk sound of Come Back Alice, 2:30 p.m.; and Sarasota Slim, 4 p.m.
