Friends of Gulf Beaches library book sale
MADEIRA BEACH – The Friends of Gulf Beaches Public Library plans its annual library book sale Saturday, Oct. 31, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The sale will include withdrawn library books, donated books, videotapes, and paperbacks. The group seeks volunteers to sort the books on Friday, Oct. 30, as well as to help staff the sale on Saturday. Call 391-2828, ext. 204 to volunteer.

Indian Shores anniversary ball
INDIAN SHORES – The town of Indian Shores plans its 60th Anniversary Ball Saturday, Nov. 7, 7 p.m., in the town auditorium. The event commemorates the diamond anniversary of the signing of the town charter in 1949. Dinner will be catered by the Salt Rock Grill and entertainment provided by the five-piece dance band “The Memories.”

The cost is $25 and includes dinner, two drinks, a 60th anniversary memento and several door prize drawings. Gold sponsors for this event include the law firm of Frazer, Hubbard, Brandt, Trask & Yacavonne and the auditing firm of Davidson, Jamieson & Associates. Indian Shores Library high tea
INDIAN SHORES – To commemorate its 45th Anniversary, the Indian Shores Library will host a high tea Sunday, Nov. 1, 4:30 p.m., at Town Hall, 19305 Gulf Blvd. The staff plans on celebrating 45 years of service to the community with tea, punch, sandwiches, Shepherd’s pie and pastries. The event will be free to all town library members and $5 for nonmembers. In addition to games and raffles, entertainment will include meeting local novelist Laura Kehoe, author of “Beach Cottage Bliss,” a fun tale set in a beach community very similar to her hometown of Indian Shores. Kehoe will be available for book signings at 5:30 p.m. The public is welcome. Call 595-2173.

Sea turtles program
INDIAN SHORES – Clearwater Marine Aquarium is offering a presentation on sea turtles Sunday, Nov. 8, at the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary, 18328 Gulf Blvd. Admission is free. Call 391-6211 to register.

Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber Meet and Greet

Flip Flop Fling
ST. PETE BEACH – The Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce plans its annual Fall Flip Flop Fling Friday, Nov. 6, 7 to 10 p.m., at the Gulf Plaza Resort and Conference Center, 5250 Gulf Blvd. The event is casual attire in the sand with food, raffles and a cash bar. Haunted house at John’s Pass Village
MADEIRA BEACH – John’s Pass Village and Boardwalk will be offering a Halloween Haunted House through Sunday, Nov. 1. The guides of the “Shop of Horrors” will take visitors through the haunted trail where there will be a number of surprises and haunts. According to organizers, the trail will be “youngster-friendly” before 7 p.m. Admission is $3 for children and $7 for adults. Parking is available in John’s Pass Village and the 325-space parking garage. Additional free parking will be available during the John’s Pass Seafood Festival at Madeira Beach Fundamental School where a free shuttle will run to the Village, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, visit www.johnspassfestivals.com.

RBPOA Wine Fest
REDINGTON BEACH – The Redington Beach Property Owners Association’s annual Wine Fest is Saturday, Nov. 7, 6 to 10 p.m., at Friendship Park on 164th Avenue. The event is the RBPOA’s major fundraiser for its scholarship fund. Each year, the RBPOA awards one or more financial scholarships to graduating high school seniors who live in Redington Beach. In addition to wine, beer will be available as well as light hors d’oeuvres donated by a variety of local restaurants. Music will be provided by local entertainment Bill’s Night Out. There will be a silent auction. The great selection of items will include gift cards from local businesses, gift baskets and jewelry. A donation of $25 a person in advance covers admission, drink and food at the event. Admission is $30 the day of the event. Advance tickets are available from RBPOA members. Children’s Halloween Spooktacular
TREASURE ISLAND – The Treasure Island Recreation Department’s annual children’s Halloween Spooktacular is Friday, Oct. 30, 6 to 9 p.m., at the Treasure Bay Golf and Tennis facility, 10315 Paradise Blvd. Activities will include a costume contest, carnival games, moonwalks and interactive games, entertainment, refreshments such as hot dogs, chips and drinks, and a haunted hayride with spooky cemetery. Judging for the costume contest will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the 2-under age group. The haunted hayride and cemetery will open at approximately 7 p.m. The event is free with minimal charges for food and beverage concessions, and some of the entertainment. Sanding Ovations
TREASURE ISLAND – Sanding Ovations, a three-day masters sand sculpting competition, is set in Treasure Island Nov. 20 to 22. World class sculptors from the United States and Canada will compete in the three-day event, which also will include live music, children’s activities, food, beverages and crafts. Sponsors are the city of Treasure Island, Treasure Island Chamber of Commerce, Bud Light Lime and Land Shark lager, Bilmar Beach Resort, Sloppy Joe’s Restaurant, Johnson Brothers and the Island Inn Resort. Treasure Island was the home of the largest sandcastle in 1985 and was proclaimed the Sand Sculpture Capital of Florida in 2001 by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.
