ST. PETE BEACH – Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies arrested four suspects Oct. 29 in connection with an armed robbery and grand theft auto case.
The armed robbery occurred about 2:40 p.m. at 210 Isle Drive in St. Pete Beach.
According to deputies, the victim, Lynn Aubert, 67, was sitting in a vehicle in front of her residence on Isle Drive when Keo Elliot, 17, asked her to roll her window down so he could ask for directions.
Deputies said Elliot then pulled a handgun from his waistband and demanded the victim’s purse. Aubert pressed down on the horn of the vehicle to attract attention. The suspect then reached into the vehicle, grabbed her purse and fled in a Honda CRV.
A deputy observed the suspect vehicle eastbound on the Pinellas Bayway and attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect vehicle eluded the deputy and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit entered a residential zone in the area of 38th Way South and 50th Avenue.
According to deputies, at one point the suspect vehicle attempted a U-turn and was struck by the deputy cruiser. The suspect vehicle’s airbag deployed and the vehicle became disabled. Elliot, the driver, Kevin Thompson, 18, and Tiwan Jones, 17, all of St. Petersburg, plus an unknown fourth suspect, exited the car and fled on foot.
Deputies and K-9 Unit deputies, with the assistance of St. Petersburg Police officers began to search and track the suspects. All four suspects were apprehended within an hour and a half’s time and arrested for armed robbery. They were also arrested for grand theft auto when it was discovered that the vehicle they were driving had been stolen from St. Pete Police Department’s jurisdiction and reported stolen on Oct. 29.
The adults were transported to Pinellas County Jail without further incident. The juveniles were taken to Pinellas Juvenile Assessment Center.
