TREASURE ISLAND – A 34-year-old Tampa man was arrested and charged with grand theft auto Oct. 21 after he took the keys to a friend’s car and drove it off without her permission.
The incident occurred early in the morning in the 8400 block of West Gulf Boulevard when police said Michael Francis Defort drove off in a 1998 Honda Accord owned by a 39-year-old Temple Terrace woman.
Later the same day Defort returned the car and was arrested by police.
He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail and later released on his own recognizance.
Police investigate theft of cash
TREASURE ISLAND – Police are investigating the theft of $1,900 in cash from the residence of a 56-year-old Treasure Island woman.
According to a police report, the theft took place on Oct. 16 around 1 p.m. However, police were not notified until the morning of Oct. 20. The investigation continues.
