Sanctuary anniversary celebration INDIAN SHORES – The Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary will celebrate its 38th anniversary with a free holiday celebration, Santa and the Seabirds, Sunday, Dec. 6, 2 p.m. Enjoy a visit and photos with Santa, gifts, punch, cookies, and an educational tour viewing more than 300 birds. The event is free and the Sanctuary is located at 18328 Gulf Blvd.

Art Guild accepting paintings TREASURE ISLAND – The Treasure Island Art Guild is accepting paintings from members for its Christmas show Thursday, Dec. 3, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Members may enter up to two paintings. Paintings should be delivered to Treasure Island City Hall Auditorium, 120 108th Ave. A reception for the winners and Christmas party is Saturday, Dec. 12, noon. All artists are invited to attend. Goodwill drive TREASURE ISLAND – Fifth Third Bank, 180 Teasure Island Causeway, plans a drive Wednesday, Dec. 9 to benefit Goodwill Industries. Anyone with items they would like to donate to Goodwill can drop them off at the bank from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Donors will receive free hot dogs Goodwill accepts donations of housewares, collectibles, home decor, clothing, shoes and books. Donations are tax-deductible.
Tree lighting REDINGTON BEACH – The Redington Beach Property Owner’s Association plans its annual Holiday Tree Lighting Saturday, Dec. 5, beginning at 4:45 p.m. at Town Park, Gulf Boulevard and 164th Avenue. The arrival of Santa Claus, courtesy of the Madeira Beach Fire Department, will be included. Mayor Nick Simons will lead children in a countdown and the park will be lighted shortly after sunset. The Redington Beach Garden Club will provide cookies and ornaments to decorate and there will be musical entertainment donated by Bills Night Out. For more information, call Anna Wiggers at 510-8957.
Empty-nester club NORTH REDINGTON BEACH – A new social group for single people who have recently become empty-nesters meets Thursdays, 7 p.m., in Mango’s Restaurant and Tiki Bar, at the Doubletree Beach Resort, 17120 Gulf Blvd. The first get-together will serve as an introductory meeting. Treasure Island boat parade TREASURE ISLAND – The Christmas Boat Parade and Holiday Celebration is scheduled Sunday, Dec. 13, at the Treasure Island Tennis and Yacht Club, 400 Treasure Island Causeway. The Holiday Celebration begins at 4:30 p.m. with the Boat Parade leaving the yacht club at 6:20 p.m. Those bringing a new, unwrapped toy to the recreation department at City Hall or Treasure Bay on Paradise Boulevard now through Dec. 11 will receive a pass to watch the parade from a spectacular vantage point, and to participate in the events at the yacht club. The toys will be donated to the Edward’s Family Foundation. Holiday music and complimentary hot dogs, chowder, hot cider and cookies will be served poolside. Santa also will make an appearance. Exercising Elves TREASURE ISLAND – Julie Ryczek of Treasure Island is seeking persons interested in participating in the city Christmas parade Saturday, Dec. 5, as a member of the Exercising Elves. The Exercising Elves is a group that will be in the parade to promote physical fitness. Ryczek, a Pinellas County teacher and a member of the Isle of Capri board of directors, is a statewide voice in the battle against child obesity.
