GULFPORT - Gulfport’s next free clothing swap will take place at the Gulfport Tuesday Fresh Market on Tuesday, Dec. 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The popular event is now regularly scheduled on the second Tuesday of each month.
The swap takes place in the courtyard adjacent to the historic Peninsula Inn at 2937 Beach Blvd. S. Participants are invited to bring as many as five gently used garments to exchange for vouchers that may be used to select clothing brought in by other participants. Items may be for women, men or children. Gently used shoes and wardrobe accessories are also accepted.
Please provide hangers for all garments to be used in the swap. For anyone interested, vouchers may also be purchased for $3 each.
Donations of clothing above the five-garment limit are encouraged and accepted. All additional donations should be contained in bags or boxes. All cash proceeds, donated clothing, and non-selected garments at the end of the swap will be donated to Community Action Stops Abuse. CASA is a local non-profit organization providing services to survivors of abuse or violence.
For more information on the clothing swap, contact Daniel Hodge at 727-366-4086 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. In case of rain, the next clothing swap is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 8.
According to Stuart Berger, CASA development director, “This is a great, easy way for the community to come out and show support for some of our neighbors in their time of need as they flee from domestic violence and prepare to begin a new life. Simply go through your closets and pick out some gently used items. Then enjoy the swap, knowing that all remaining clothing will be donated to CASA to help others.”
More than 150 large bags of clothing and hundreds of dollars have been donated to CASA since the clothing swap was started in summer 2010. The clothing swap is co-sponsored by the Gulfport Tuesday Fresh Market, Gulfport Merchants Association and Peninsula Inn & Spa.
Gulfport’s Tuesday Fresh Market is a year-round event, offering fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as fresh bread, cheese, seafood, Florida grass-fed beef, free range chicken, herbs, plants and flowers, desserts, nuts and granola, local honey, pet treats, hand-made soaps, local art, crafts, jewelry, bath and body products and much more.
More than 50 vendors set up shop for the day each Tuesday. New vendors join the market place each week and live music is always featured. The Market takes place every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., except on the first Tuesday of each month, when the Market lasts from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., accommodating after-work shoppers.
