Redington Shores police officer named Kenneth City chief
Article published on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007
REDINGTON SHORES – A longtime protector of the community is leaving, Vice Mayor Bert Adams announced at the Dec. 12 town commission meeting.

Sgt. Doug Pasley, a member of the Indian Shores Police Department, will become the new police chief of Kenneth City. Pasley replaces Chief Jim Ernst who stepped down over health reasons.

Adams said he first became acquainted with Sgt. Pasley when the two served as Tampa police officers in the 1970s. Adams said that soon after he bought a house in Tampa, he had casually remarked to Pasley that it needed painting quickly so he could move in. He returned to the house later to find that Pasley and his family had done the paint job.

Pasley is a 26-year veteran of the Tampa police, where he had management responsibilities involving all facets of evaluations and performance, purchasing, maintenance, special patrol and undercover surveillance activities.

Pasley went on to serve 15 years with the Indian Shores police. He was the community policing officer for Redington Shores, which contracts its police work with Indian Shores, and implemented the community-orientated policing program.

Commissioner John Branch said Pasley was the type of person that, when he arrested somebody, “they would almost thank him for arresting them.”

Branch also reported that a house on First Avenue was recently run into by an automobile. No one was home at the time.

“I’m glad nobody was in the shower, because it took the shower right off of the building,” Branch said.

Land development code rewrite completed

The commission wrapped up a major rework of the town’s land development code by making a few minor last-minute changes. Mayor Jody Armstrong described the code rewrite as “a lengthy and very laborious process.” Commissioner Casey Wojcik said conclusion of the 200 page document represented “the culmination of a long, long effort.”
