MADEIRA BEACH – A new 46,000-square foot Publix Supermarket will replace the current store at Tom Stuart Causeway and Duhme Road in the third quarter of 2014.
The current store, which opened in 1957, will close on Saturday, Jan. 11. Demolition will begin shortly thereafter.
The new store will be a traditional one-story building with a pharmacy and liquor store. No other details were available from Publix officials.
All current employees will be assigned to other stores in the area.
Coconut Inn adds upgrades
PASS-A-GRILLE – The restoration and renovations on the Coconut Inn in Pass-a-Grille have been completed and were celebrated with an official ribbon cutting by the Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce on Dec. 18.
Local leaders, business owners, residents and visitors attended the event.
Joe Caruso is the owner of the newly formed brand the St. Pete Beach Boutique Hotel Collection which includes Coconut Inn, Sabal Palms Inn and the newest property the Havana Inn. He and his family have been investing in the Pass-A-Grille tourism industry for the past 30 years. The mission of the company is to keep raising the standards of rental properties in Pass-A-Grille to meet the demand of today’s consumer for newer and more modern hotel units while still maintaining the historic nature of the property.
Coconut Inn has been awarded a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence and the Superior Small Lodging White Glove Award three years in a row and is a member of the chamber and the Superior Small Lodging Association.
