CLEARWATER BEACH – Clearwater Beach and the Palm Pavilion Inn will receive national exposure on the ABC television program “Extreme Makeover,” which will air Thursday, Jan. 13, on WFTS-Ch. 11. The episode tells the story of a young man from the area who gets an astonishing makeover, and heartwarming elements will be revealed.
Clearwater Beach was selected as the location for the family to learn of this young man’s selection for the program. The subject of the program lives in Tampa, but his identity will not be revealed until the program airs. The crew and the young man – complete with new look – returned eight weeks later for the big “reveal” which was taped at the Palm Pavilion Inn restaurant.
The St. Petersburg/Clearwater Area Film Commission, a department of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, provided production support, permitting assistance and troubleshooting to the program. Film commissioner Jennifer Parramore said Clearwater Beach was selected because it is a family-friendly location that is visually appealing.
“This is one of the hottest shows in ABC’s lineup,” Parramore said. “They had such a great time that we think they will be back to film in our area again. This episode will showcase Clearwater and tell a heartwarming story.”
