IRB candidate qualifying ends

INDIAN ROCKS BEACH – The candidate qualifying period for the March 11 election ended Jan. 11 with Mayor Bill Ockunzzi being the last candidate to confirm his intention to run.
Ockunzzi returned his qualifying papers with the required 20 resident signature cards on Jan. 10.
As previously reported, Vice Mayor R.B. Johnson will challenge Ockunzzi for the mayor’s seat.
Voters will select two from among three candidates who are vying for open City Commission seats – Don House, Joanne “Cookie” Kennedy and Daniel J. Torres.
Candidate records are open for public inspection at City Hall. Appointments must be made with City Clerk Deanne O’Reilly by calling 517-0204.
The IRB Homeowners’ Association will host a Candidates Forum on Monday, March 3, 7 p.m., at the Civic Auditorium.
New voter registration will continue through Monday, Feb. 11. Absentee ballots, which the Supervisor of Elections Office now refers to as “Mail Ballots,” may be obtained beginning Tuesday, Jan. 22, and must be turned in to the Supervisor of Elections Office by 7 p.m. on election day, Tuesday, March 11.
