Lorene Lane celebrates her 100th birthday Thursday, March 6.
BELLEAIR – Lorene Lane celebrates her 100th birthday Thursday, March 6. Born in Headland, Ala., on March 6, 1914, Lorene was the first of three children born to parents Margaret Ann and James Benjamin Quattelbaum.
When she was 7 years old, Lane’s family moved to Dunedin, where she attended elementary and junior high. After graduating from Clearwater High School, Lorene attended business school, then worked for two years for Coachman Estates. In 1935, she started what became a distinguished, 34-year-career with The Florida Power Company.
In 1941, Lorene met a banker named Joel R. Lane. He was drafted shortly thereafter and was stationed in Dothan, Ala, where they were married in 1942. After World War II ended, Joel resumed his career with the Bank of Clearwater, where he had worked since 1925 and where he eventually served as president and on the board of directors.
They moved to Belleair in 1947 and enjoyed life with their daughter, Sylvia.
