Church takes steps to conserve

LARGO – First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks, at 12685 Ulmerton Road, has taken a proactive step in good stewardship of energy, the environment and ministry dollars.

By embarking on a comprehensive energy conservation and management program with Energy Education, a national company whose energy conservation programs have saved more than $1.5 billion.

The program began June 1. The church will hire an energy education specialist who will receive intensive training from Energy Education personnel to implement conservation procedures throughout the system. The specialist will conduct energy audits to ensure that churchgoers are comfortable during scheduled activities and that energy is used only as necessary.

The energy education specialist will be responsible for helping to motivate church staff and members to use energy wisely, keep campus rooms comfortable and practice other smart energy strategies.

All costs of the program come from the existing utility budget, with savings projected to more than pay for the program – ensuring that the program is self-funding. Additional savings can be reserved for other parts of the budget. Many organizations have credited this program with helping keep personnel and maintain programs that otherwise would have fallen victim to budget cuts.

In addition, Energy Education provides free support after the paid term of the contract, as long as the program is implemented. The energy savings continue for many years.

For more information, visit www.energyeducation.com. For general information about the church, call 595-3421 or visit www.indianrocks.org.
