INDIAN ROCKS BEACH - Deputies assigned to the Pinellas County Sheriffąs Office Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a single car crash that happened at the Indian Rocks bridge July 18 at 12:35 a.m.
The driver of the vehicle, Benton D. Kirk, 28, of Largo, was seriously injured.
According to deputies, Kirk was headed westbound on Walsingham Road in his 1994 Acura Integra, approaching the Indian Rocks bridge. Several witnesses told deputies that they saw the driver traveling at a high rate of speed.
Kirk crashed into a guard rail on the west end of the bridge, which caused the vehicle to spin out of control and collide with a palm tree in the median, before the vehicle came to rest in the roadway.

Walsingham Road was closed westbound from Hamlin Boulevard while the on scene crash investigation was conducted. It reopened to traffic at about 5:15 a.m.
It is undetermined if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
