Belleair Beach Causeway to close July 26-27

BELLEAIR BEACH – Anyone headed between the mainland and the beach the night of July 26 might want to post a reminder by their car keys: Do not take the Belleair Beach Causeway Bridge.
The causeway will close to all traffic Saturday, July 26, at 7 p.m. and remain closed until Sunday at 7 p.m.
The closure is necessary to help facilitate a shift in the traffic flow on the west end of the causeway.
“We will shift causeway traffic north to what has been finished at the new bridge so far, so we can start working on the south side,” explained project manager Tony Horrnik. “This is for worker safety and public safety, we want to keep the public away from the heavy equipment as much as possible.”
The bridge project continues to be 12 days ahead of schedule and on budget. Project completion is targeted for the fall of 2009, but Horrnik anticipates the bridge itself being completed next spring.
“Before you know it, the big bridge will be there,” Horrnik said. “I know this is an inconvenience to the public, and we are trying to eliminate as many future closures as possible.”
Once completed, the public will enjoy not only the new high-rise bridge, but also a much nicer baithouse and concession area at the new county boat ramp and a dog beach that will be free of vehicles. Parking will be designated under the new bridge.
“Everything is going well,” Horrnik said. “It’s very satisfying.”
