BELLEAIR – Police are investigating a series of car burglaries in the early morning hours of July 20.
Almost a dozen cars were burglarized in the areas of Belleview Boulevard, Wildwood Way, Woodlawn Avenue, Roebling Road and Flamingo Drive, mostly between 2 and 4 a.m.
According to police Chief Tom Edwards, the cars had all been left unlocked, making them easy targets for the burglars who stole loose change, CDs, and, in a few cases, more expensive items.
Noticing a pattern of car burglaries spreading throughout the county in recent weeks, Edwards had advised citizens at Town Commission meetings to be sure they lock their cars.
Edwards said his department has received a few good leads on a possible suspect in the recent burglaries, though no arrest had been made as of press time.
Once again, the police chief sends a simple message to citizens of Belleair and elsewhere to avoid being victimized.
“Please, lock your cars.”
