SOUTH PASADENA – Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies arrested the man who jumped off the Belleair Beach Causeway Bridge Tuesday night after he was stopped for speeding.
Robert Tebow, 34, a transient was found by members of the Violent Crimes Task Force in South Pasadena. He was taken into custody without incident.
He was charged with fleeing and eluding, providing a false name to law enforcement and felony driving while license suspended or revoked.
Deputies released a surveillance photo of the suspect taken from a convenience store just prior to the traffic stop Wednesday afternoon after spending much of the day searching for clues in the case.
According to the sheriff’s report, deputies stopped a 2005 Dark Blue Dodge Durango about 9:30 p.m. Sept. 24. The driver then exited the vehicle and jumped over the bridge’s railing.
The sheriff’s patrol units, flight section and Marine Unit actively searched for the suspect through the night, assisted by the U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife. The driver, described as a white male about 34 years old wearing blue jeans and a dark-colored T-shirt with possibly a tattoo at the base of his neck, was not found.
Deputies said the vehicle was stopped because it was speeding. The deputy making the stop asked the driver for identification and vehicle registration. While the deputy was checking the documents, the driver left the vehicle, ran to the bridge railing and jumped.
