Obituary: Herta Schulz

INDIAN ROCKS BEACH – A memorial service will be held for Herta Schulz Friday, Nov. 2, 4 p.m., at Calvary Episcopal Church, 1615 1st St., Indian Rocks Beach.
Herta Schulz, 71, of Homosassa, formerly of Largo, was born on May 15, 1941, in Trier, Germany. She died at home on Aug. 29, under the care of Hospice less than a year after being diagnosed of ALS, a motor neuron disease.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Willi Schulz, her sister Karen (Karl-Heinz) Von Der Straeten of Ingolstadt, Germany, her daughter Claudia (Karl) Interrante, her son Michael (Cheryl) Schulz and her grandchildren Emily and Mika Schulz and Luke Interrante.
Herta immigrated to Florida in 1964 due to a job relocation for Willi, who was employed by Volkswagen as a trainer. Willi, Herta and Michael moved from Germany to Gainesville and, shortly thereafter, the Largo area of Florida. In 1976 they became citizens of the United States.
In 1976 Willi, Herta and Michael opened German Imports Corp. on Indian Rocks Beach, which relocated a few years later to their current location on Walsingham Road in Largo. Herta’s hobbies which included making time for her family, gardening, traveling, cooking, reading, sewing and knitting. She was an avid tennis player and enjoyed partners tennis with the city of Largo for many years.
A reception will follow the memorial service in the Calvary Episcopal Church parish hall.
