BELLEAIR – William Shephard, 74, of Belleair whose family owns the Shephard’s Beach resort on Clearwater Beach, died Dec. 10.
Born and raised in Lewiston, Maine, Shephard graduated from Northeastern University in Boston.
Shephard went into partnership with his parents and purchased his first motel in Brunswick, Maine in 1969. In 1977, Shephard moved his family to Clearwater, where he and his mother, Yvonne, bought the Lagoon Motel on Clearwater Beach, now known as Shephard’s Beach Resort.
Shephard’s “vision, leadership and strong business sense has made this family owned and operated business a landmark in the Tampa Bay area,” his obituary said.
In his free time, Shephard enjoyed fishing, boating, traveling, attending Florida State University and Tampa Bay Bucs football games and spending time with his family.
Funeral services are Monday, Dec. 16, 1:30 p.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, 860 Jasmine Way, Clearwater. There will be no prior visitation hours.
