BELLEAIR – The 6th annual CharityWorks Cup Challenge Nov. 20 at Belleair Country Club was a tremendous kickoff to the holiday season, with needy children who will receive gifts of clothes, toys and other necessities, being the biggest winners of all.
“It was more challenging to achieve this year, but 108 golfers came out to play in our tournament,” said Chris Renfrow, president and CEO of CharityWorks. “The course was in excellent shape, the weather ideal and there were plenty of luxury cars prominently displayed around the country club courtesy of BENTLEY of Tampa and Ambassador Limousine & Sedan, Inc.”
The net amount raised from the golf tournament was $15,500. This included approximately $3,000 from ticket sales from the helicopter ball drop and direct contributions made to CharityWorks 2nd Annual Holiday Gift Giving Fund, as of Nov. 20.
“Not bad for a weak economy,” says Renfrow. “This is proof that people still care about supporting needy children during the holidays.”
The helicopter was provided in-kind by Dave King of Skyvues Aerial Photography. Each golfer and hundreds who entered the contest had a chance to win a new Samsung 37” HDTV and leather recliner, a prize package valued at $1,500.
The helicopter ball drop winner was Mike Chapman, a golfer on the team of Regions Morgan Keegan Trust. A consolation prize, a full function radio controlled helicopter, was awarded to Uta Grove and Avi Yofan. They purchased chance tickets and their golf balls landed closest to the pin in the order of second and third place.
The biggest winner was the Guardian ad Litem Program in Pinellas and Pasco.
