Lopez takes third at Pipeline Masters

INDIAN ROCKS BEACH – Hometown surfing favorite Cory Lopez finished third recently in a star-studded Rip Curl Pro Pipeline Masters final in Oahu, Hawaii.
Surfing among his peers, an elite final four engaged in a 35-minute battle royale with countless exchanges in the Pipeline Masters’ 36th anniversary year.
The appearance in the final was Lopez’s first in this event, although he has been in the Pipeline semifinals twice, with numerous quarterfinal finishes. The Pipeline Masters is considered to be the world’s most prestigious professional surfing event and the trophy is coveted by the world’s best.
“I had fun and I was psyched to be in the final,” Lopez said.
Lopez recently opened Nekton Surf Shop on Gulf Boulevard in IRB.
