BELLEAIR BEACH – A new member of the City Council will take the oath of office in March without an election.
David Dumville, currently a member of the city’s zoning board of adjustment, will replace Councilwoman Mary Schoonover who chose not to seek re-election after serving one term in office.
Incumbents Richard Crowl and Mitch Krach also will be sworn-in to new, two-year terms.
Crowl, Krach and Dumville were the only candidates to file pre-qualification forms for the three available seats. By state law, there will be no election in the city because no one is contesting those three candidates.
Schoonover was elected to the council in 2006. A television producer, she campaigned two years ago promising to focus on developing the city’s public television station which now broadcasts all council meetings on cable TV.
Crowl, too, was elected in 2006. A retired corporate and securities lawyer, Crowl has applied his expertise to city affairs, fighting for better pay for its employees while cutting taxes.
Krach was appointed to the council last year after the sudden resignation of Councilman Jeffrey Coulsen. He is the manager of a homeowners association in Polk County.
