CLEARWATER – A man suspected of being the skateboard-riding Target thief was arrested on Jan. 22, according to a Clearwater police report.
David Ahmaal Aziz Kennedy, 30, of Clearwater was charged with robbery with a deadly weapon He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail. Bond was set at $50,000.
Police said Kennedy robbed the Super Target, 2747 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd. in Clearwater, Jan. 15. He reportedly entered the store one minute before closing, grabbed a 32-inch flat-screen TV and fled the store on a skateboard.
Surveillance video released after the robbery showed the suspect skating through the store with the TV in his possession and then fleeing Target still riding the skateboard. The video was posted on the Clearwater Police Department Facebook page, where more than 15,000 people viewed it.
Apparently, one of those views was Kennedy himself, who said a friend told him that he should check out the video, the police report said. He did not admit to detectives that he appeared in the video or that he robbed the store.
Jail records show that he has been arrested at least 18 times in Pinellas since 2010. His most recent arrest prior to this one was on Jan. 9 on a grand theft charge. He was released from jail on that charge Jan. 14. The Target robbery occurred the next day.
