CLEARWATER - The main sewer line on Gulf Boulevard at Sand Key has ruptured.
Crews from the City of Clearwater s Public Utilities department are on-site, and an emergency repair is underway to restore the main and roadway.
The location of the break in the sewer line is about three-quarters of a mile south of the Sand Key Bridge.
Traffic will be impacted for several days, so residents are encouraged to avoid this area if possible. Detours have been set up, and the center turn lane is currently being used to reroute traffic. Only the northbound lane of traffic is obstructed. Detour signs and message boards will be in place before dark.
Equipment has been mobilized and crews are working to reroute sewage to a nearby lift station or manhole. The contractor is on-site and is ready to begin the repair. It is unclear at this time exactly how long the repair will take.
