Phillies enhance security measures at Spring Training

CLEARWATER – Fans entering Spectrum Field for Phillies spring training games will now be required to use walk-through metal detectors immediately before their tickets are scanned. The enhanced security measures model the team’s metal detector program at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

All guests will be expected to walk through metal detectors at all entrance gates, starting with the Phillies vs. Tampa Spartans game on Feb. 23. The added security is part of a Major League Baseball mandate stating all fans are subject to metal detection screening.

With the enhanced security measures, guests are encouraged to allow for extra time when entering Spectrum Field. Unlike the standard procedures of the Transportation Security Administration, fans will not be required to remove shoes or belts. Those who cannot pass through a metal detector will be checked with a hand-held device.

All cell phones, cameras, keys and other large metal items will need to be removed prior to passing through the metal detectors. Guests will place these items in a screening bowl alongside each individual machine in close proximity and in clear sight. Once through the metal detector, each fan can easily and quickly gather their items and proceed inside the ballpark.

These new procedures are in addition to bag checks, which are already in place in accordance with Major League Baseball security regulations. As before, bags must be no larger than 16” x 16” x 8”.
