CLEARWATER – Two people were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries Wednesday afternoon after one ran through a red light at Lakeview Road and Lake Avenue.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Howard W. Dippel Jr., 85, of Dunedin was driving his 2008 Kia westbound on Lakeview Road approaching Lakeview Avenue about 2:23 p.m. March 26. Annie Josephine Spellissy, 82, of Belleair was stopped at the red traffic signal at Lake Avenue.
The signal turned green and Spellissy, who was traveling southbound in a 2004 Toyota, entered the intersection. Dippel failed to stop at the traffic signal and collided with Spellissy, whose car rotated and came to rest in the intersection.
Dippel’s vehicle continued southwest off the roadway and traveled into two private yards. The Kia collided with several small trees and came to rest against an unoccupied and abandoned home, causing minor cosmetic damage to the home.
