CLEARWATER – The city of Clearwater has two beach wheelchairs to accommodate visitors with disabilities who come to Clearwater Beach. The chairs are available for checkout at the beach lifeguard station near the Pier 60 parking lot. They are for manual use and require assistance.
The wheelchairs provide additional opportunities for people with disabilities to enjoy Clearwater’s beaches with friends and family. The wheelchairs are equipped with large, inflated wheels and can fit through a 36-inch doorway. The maneuverability provided by castering rear wheels makes it easy to handle the wheelchairs on uneven surfaces like sand on Clearwater Beach. The chairs are not for use in the water.
The chairs are available 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week. The wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved. There may be times when staff is not immediately available at the lifeguard station, but there is usually only a short wait. If the lifeguards are responding to an emergency or looking for a lost person, the lifeguard station may be unmanned.
