CLEARWATER – Sand Pearl Resort’s Executive Chef Steve Jordan, who was wearing a cauliflower costume, feigned disappointment.
A woman politely refused to accept a head of cauliflower, a prize she won at Caretta’s Restaurant booth during Taste Fest May 9 on Clearwater Beach.
“That’s wrong,” Jordan said.
But there were several other more appetizing prizes given away at the both and dozens of people enjoyed cauliflower emulsion dishes and laughed at the chance to win a head of cauliflower.
“Round and round she goes and where she stops nobody knows on the wheel of cauliflower,” said Sand Pearl Food and Beverage Director Jonathan Pelletier, as he spun the wheel.
Attendees at Taste Fest swarmed the booths, entering drawings and sampling everything from chilled duck breast to buffalo wings while drinking fine wines and craft beer.
“It’s great; it’s wonderful. A nice taste of it all,” said Jean Crider of Southgate, Michigan, who is staying with her son and daughter in Clearwater.
Crider was hard pressed to say what her favorite food sample was at Taste Fest.
“There hasn’t been anything I’ve been disappointed in. I couldn’t even pinpoint it. Because everything I’ve tasted I keep saying that’s the best.”
She said if she’s in the area again, she’ll come back to the event.
Taste Fest, which also featured fireworks, is part of the Fifth annual Clearwater Beach Restaurant Week May 12-18.
“It’s a fabulous night. We couldn’t be happier,” said Darlene Kole, president of the Clearwater Beach Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber has been planning for Taste Fest for six months.
“We have 27 restaurants, tons of sponsors and vendors. Awesome crowd. The weather is perfect,” she said. “And you can win a head of cauliflower.”
