SAFETY HARBOR – Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies assigned to the major accident investigation team are investigating a Ford Explorer versus marked patrol car crash in Safety Harbor.
According to the sheriff’s report, the incident took place Monday, June 10, about 12:37 a.m. at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North and Fourth Avenue North in Safety Harbor.
Deputy Nicholas Forgione was driving his marked patrol car northbound on Fourth Avenue North, responding to an emergency call for service. Forgione activated his emergency lights prior to approaching the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street and continued driving through the intersection.
As Forgione drove through the intersection, the front passenger side of his marked cruiser struck the front driver side of the Ford Explorer that was traveling westbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street.
The driver of the Ford Explorer, Jade Palanjay, 18, of Seminole was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The three passengers of the Ford Explorer and Deputy Forgione were not injured.
Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor in the crash. The investigation continues.
