CLEARWATER – The 2012 Clearwater Debutante Season commenced recently with Debutante Day at Carlouel Yacht Club. Twelve well-poised young women, who are in college and making philanthropic contributions, are debutantes this season.
Sarah Lynn White welcomed the debs and introduced them to the season. Margaret Word Burnside, of “Tampa Bay Magazine,” spoke of the history, etiquette and formality of being a debutante.
Beth McMullen, a former debutante, spoke about the modern relevance of being a debutante, embracing the honor and being stewards of this long-standing tradition.
Evening activities found the debs and their parents, along with the debutante committee, at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Prior in Belleair for a poolside lawn party.
Throughout the season, the debs will enjoy many events held in their honor. During these events, the debutantes will become more familiar with the community and its philanthropists and leaders.
The season will culminate in December, with the debs being formally introduced into society at the Debutante Courtier Ball.
