Schools grades bring good, bad news

CLEARWATER – School and district grades have been released for the 2008-09 school year, and Pinellas County held steady, earning a B. It has earned a B every year since the 2003-04 school year.

Grades are based on FCAT scores, making annual learning gains (also called Annual Yearly Progress, or AYP) and gaining bonus points for 11th and 12th grade retakes.

Individual school grades are as follows:

Clearwater elementary schools

• Belcher Elementary held steady at an A

• Belleair Elementary jumped from a C to an A

• Eisenhower Elementary dropped from an A to a B

• High Point Elementary held steady at an A

• Kings Highway Elementary held steady at a C

• Leila Davis Elementary held steady at an A

• McMullen Booth Elementary held steady at an A

• North Ward Elementary held steady at an A

• Plumb Elementary held steady at an A

• Ponce de Leon Elementary jumped to an A from a B

• Sandy Lane Elementary held steady at a C

• Skycrest Elementary jumped to an A from a B

Clearwater middle schools

• Coachman Fundamental held steady at an A

• Kennedy Middle held steady at a B

• Oak Grove Middle held steady at an A

Clearwater high schools

• Clearwater High maintained a C

• Countryside High dropped from a C to a D

Dunedin elementary schools

• Curtis Fundamental Elementary held steady at an A

• Dunedin Elementary held steady at a B

• Garrison-Jones Elementary held steady at an A

• San Jose Elementary jumped to an A from a C

Dunedin middle school

• Dunedin Highland Middle dropped to a B from an A

Dunedin High school

• Dunedin High dropped from a C to a D

Charter schools

• Academie Da Vinci Charter held steady at an A

• Athenian Academy held steady at a B
