CLEARWATER – The Florida League of Cities has recognized Clearwater City Councilman Bill Jonson with the 2014 Home Rule Hero Award.
This prestigious award was presented to Jonson for his efforts to advance the League’s legislative agenda and help protect the home rule powers of Florida’s cities during the 2014 legislative session. Home Rule Hero Award recipients are local government officials who consistently responded to the League’s request to reach out to the legislature and help give a local perspective on an issue.
“Councilman Bill Jonson is a great example of a Home Rule Hero,” said Florida League of Cities Legislative Director Scot Dudley. “He is extremely dedicated to the citizens of Clearwater and brings that same level of commitment to helping the Florida League of Cities advocacy team. Councilman Jonson has and will always be a valuable asset to his city and the state of Florida.”
Jonson was elected to the city council in 2001 and is one of three councilmembers serving on the Clearwater Pension Advisory Committee, represents the city on the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority and founded Citizens for a Better Clearwater. Jonson is the city’s representative to the Florida League of Cities where he was elected president in 2005 and again in 2013. He also serves on the FLC Board of Directors, is an active member on the FLC Advocacy, Nominations, Resolutions and Legislative Policy Committees.
