St. Petersburg police arrested a man and woman Aug. 21 wanted in connection with the theft of purses from Hooters in Clearwater.
Clearwater police released videos Aug. 20, showing the man and woman stealing items aided by a young child – perhaps a 10-year-old boy. One video showed the man taking items, passing them to the child, who deposited them inside a cart being pushed by the woman. The second video showed the adults waiting while the child stole purses from a back room at Hooters.
The next day, Clearwater PD issued a thank you to the public, media and St. Petersburg Police Department for their assistance in finding the couple. The two Kissimmee residents were arrested in a bowling alley in St. Petersburg. Their son and 2-year-old daughter were handed over to the Department of Children and Families.
Clearwater police said an anonymous tipster called St. Petersburg police after they saw the couple’s images on television.
Julio Angel Torres, 31, of Kissimmee, was charged with two counts of grand theft, neglect of a child, burglary of an unoccupied structure and fraudulent use of a credit card. Bond was set at $25,150. He also being held without bail on a warrant from Orange County for a charge of grand theft while on probation.
Janet Soto, 37, also of Kissimmee was charged with two counts of grand theft, burglary of an unoccupied structure, fraudulent use of a credit card and neglect of a child. Bond was set at $30,150.
