Sara Preston, 12, competes in the pattern dance category to the “Fiesta Tango” and “Cha Cha” at the Broadmoor Open in June in Colorado.
CLEARWATER – Sara Preston, 12, of Clearwater won numerous awards this summer in U.S. figure skating.
Preston traveled to Atlanta and took first place in both pre-bronze pattern dance and juvenile free dance. Then she went on to Colorado Springs, skating to first place in both pattern and free dance. Next was Princeton, N.J., where she took third in pattern, and culminating her qualifying period in Hershey, Pa., where she took first in free dance.
Preston’s scores placed her within the top six in the Eastern Section, qualifying her for an invitation to the U.S. Figure Skating Solo Dance National Championships in Colorado Springs on Sept. 19 to 23.
Preston’s ice dance coach, Jim Millns, also coaches another qualifier, Sarah Fuller, 15, who also will attend the championships at the pre-silver pattern dance and intermediate free dance levels.
Both skaters represent the Tampa Bay Skating Club in Oldsmar.
