CLEARWATER – The second annual Clothes to Kids “Drop (off) Your Drawers” underwear drive is gearing up for the month of October.
Clothes to Kids is a nonprofit organization that provides needy school-age kids in Pinellas County with a free week’s worth of clothing. This also includes five pairs of new underwear each. This year, the organization will give out more than 67,500 pairs of underwear, costing about $1.75 each. The underwear drive helps meet this huge need.
Last year, the organization collected 33,000 pairs of new underwear and $23,000 to support the organization’s needs. To participate this year, collect new, unopened packages of underwear for the month of October. Donate either on an individual level or sign up your companies, civic groups, places of workshops worship and schools. On Thursday, Oct. 25, 4 to 6 p.m., everyone will load up a vehicle and drive to either Clothes to Kids Clearwater at 1059 N. Hercules Ave. or the St. Petersburg location at 3251 Third Ave. N. and join in for the festivities.
There will be a local DJ at each store to announce each delivery as it arrives. Everything will be set up in the parking lot with volunteers and excitement. There also will be a scoreboard to keep a running tally of the pairs of underwear collected.
