CLEARWATER – The Clearwater Police Department is hosting the 29th annual National Night Out Against Crime Campaign on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 5 to 9 p.m. at the Clearwater Mall in the Super Target parking lot, Gulf to Bay Boulevard and U.S. Hwy. 19.
Officers will be on hand to talk about safety and crime prevention and can answer any of the public’s questions. National Night Out is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support for anticrime initiatives, strengthen the relationship between the community and police, and let criminals know that crime won’t be tolerated.
Citizens will have an opportunity to walk in a police officer’s shoes with a special traffic stop interactive demonstration. The public will see first-hand some of the challenges and dangers police officers face each day. Other demonstrations, displays and services include SWAT, the Emergency Response Team, the mounted patrol, free document shredding, child safety seat checks, and bicycle safety inspections.
